SPIRIT TRAINING WITH TENSHIN KAN DOJO.
1ST NOVEMBER 2009.
Tenshin Kan UK Dojo Spirit Training November 2009
MSMAS held another 'Spirit Training' Session, on the beach, this time at West Wittering near Chichester ...
After first meeting at the Dojo @ 0730hrs the group travelled for about 90 minutes by car to the designated 'training area' and at @ 0900hrs commenced training, which lasted for nearly 3 hours.
This was 'Spirit Training' and as such NOT 'discipline specific' so was held in addition to our regular Dojo Training and general fitness, for a general improvement right across 4 disciplines.
The weather was perfect ~ heavy rain, strong winds with severe gales followed by cold showery weather with winds gusts to 70mph .....
First a warm up, then a mile run along the beach for bokken training in the surf....
Then a run back, with more training at each stage.
After a warm down, back to the cars and a change of clothes before hot teas all round...
Well done to all who took part: including:
Guy, Peter, Judo Luke, New Luke, Roberto, Kevin, David F, David R, Peter, Sary, Edward, Kohai Paddy, Shaun, Mike & Andy...
Especial thanks to Renshi Bibby, Renshi Terashima and MSMAS Yudansha, Catherine, Irene & Patrick.
Also thanks to Sarah (MSMAS Medic), Laura (Asst Medic), Donna & Nick
(Lifeguard) for their time and assistance...

AFTER THE EVENT WITH THE DORYOKU SHO TEAM TROPHY AND
THE SHOREI SHO TROPHY AWARDED TO SHIHAN SELVEY.

The Tonbo trip to Athens was a very memorable experience indeed.
Seeing all the different people and styles of martial arts congregated in one great dojo really was a site to see.
Meeting Hanshi Hamada made me feel pretty nervous, however on hearing him speak I quickly became more focused and very motivated.
His speeches seemed to touch the very core of your deepest self.
I walked away from Athens with the deepest respect for this man, and a slightly different outlook on life.
All in all I recommend everyone should attend at least one of these trips, just
to experience and see first hand all the different styles of martial arts the DNBK masters have to offer.
And if you are good enough to pass a grading, you may even be lucky enough to be knighted by Hanshi Hamada with Musashi Miyamoto’s famous Bokken.
You will not be disappointed.

Graded to Sho-Dan October 2009.
Click! it's my camera taking the picture of the team awaiting our demo that is shown above.
We are in Athens and it's the second day of the D.N.B.K I.D Rensei Taikai, it's 80 degrees and all the guys that you can see have already proven themselves in their own way from the testing session yesterday.
Today however is the team display and we are moments away , i smile to myself , i know this feeling quite well by now nothing seems to change.
What I know is that at the end of it we have become closer as Budoka from powerful emotions shared and from the knowledge that we have travelled all this way to challenge ourselves and perhaps understand more of where we are in our life and maybe gain perspective for our future.
I later see the guys awarded thier grades , on one knee with heads bowed humbly in appreciation and my heart will pound and a tear comes to my eye.
I look around again some friends look back and future friends look on ,
it's time to go .............
Glenn Coxon Nidan Tenshin Ryu 2009.
From our Tuesday night training sessions at Shirley Community Centre, to standing with other dojo's from around the world. It's not until you have done something like this that you realise what a big part we play in being a part of DNBKID.
There is an outstanding amount of respect for each other , any nerves are soon forgotten as you are all together. If that doesn't work then a speech from Hanshi Hamada will soon leave you 8ft tall and strong from within.
As we walk out to do our display, our heads are high, Tonbo symbol on our arms and the pride and honour in our dojo shows from within . We give a display that turns peoples heads, which we never fail to do , it was an honour to stand there with Shihan Selvey, Sempai Coxon and my fellow Tonbo members. I will eagerly await the next DNBK meeting.
My favourite moment, none other than being touched with history on the shoulders.
Andrew Hanlon, shodan.
